This picture isn't very good sorry, but you know how it is when you just want dinner on the table. My friend Andrea gave me her family cookbook one year and it has a lot of great recipes. My daughter wanted French Toast for her birthday dinner and I wanted to have something a little different so I decided to try it. It was so delicious. Nice and caramely. Plus the butter syrup just takes it to the next level. The great thing about it is that you make it the night before and then just pop it in the oven whenever you're ready to bake it. I think I would like it with chopped pecans as well. Just sprinkle them over the sauce before you put down the bread.
Creme Brulee French Toast
1/2 c. butter
1 c. packed brown sugar
2 T. corn syrup
12 pieces Texas Toast bread
5 eggs
1 1/2 c. half and half
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
In a small saucepan melt butter, brown sugar and corn syrup over medium heat until smooth, stirring occasionally. Pour mixture onto greased jelly roll pan. Spread to cover surface. Place 12 slices Texas toast in a single layer to cover pan. Mix together eggs, cream, salt and vanilla. Spoon mixture over each piece of bread. cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Remove from pan and serve with syrup butter. If not serving immediately, turn each slice of bread over (this prevents bread from sticking to the bottom of the pan.)
Butter Syrup
1 1/2 c. butter
3 cups syrup
melt together.
